At the time of their introduction the Samsung CLP-310 (August 2008) and CLP-315 (May 2008) were the smallest color printers in the marketplace - both take up just over one square ft of desktop space. Aimed at SOHO and small workgroup users both models print at 17ppm in black and 4ppm in color (letter), with a duty cycle of 20k pages. The specifications are the same for both, with the only difference being the CLP-310 is silver in color and the CLP-315 a polished black. The 315 is also offered in a wireless model. Two MFP versions were also available, the CLX-3170 and CLX-3175, both adding add scan, copy and fax functionality.

The supplies set is made up of a 1,500 page yield black toner, 1,000 page yield color cartridges and a separate drum unit yielding 24,000 (black) and 6,000 (color). A waste toner unit is also needed, holding up to 10,000 black and 2,500 pages worth of color waste toner and paper fibers. Printers ship with 1,000 page black and 700 page color starter cartridges. All toner cartridges require a chip in order for the printer to function properly without user intervention.
